What is VAT? A Basic Definition
Value Added Tax. A system of indirect taxation in the European Union and some other countries, whereby every sale has tax charged on it, but VAT-registered traders can set tax chared to them against tax that they charge totheir own customers. They pay the difference between the two to the taxation authority.
